Morgan Sports Centre – Queen Anne’s School

Work has recently completed on a £350,000 refurbishment of the fitness facilities in the Morgan Sports Centre, at Queen Anne’s School (QAS) in Caversham, Reading.

The independent boarding and day school for around 450 girls, aged 11 to 18 years, occupies a 35 acre campus, and benefits from a new 140 sq m gym, with the original gym having been converted into a 100 sq m dance/aerobic studio, which has proven to be an extremely popular addition with the pupils. The new fitness suite features 35-stations of Matrix equipment including the M7ex range of cardiovascular machines all kitted out with individual TV consoles, IC7 (indoor cycle) bikes, and Aura range resistance equipment including a Multi-Functional Trainer.

Ian Gregory, Sports Centre Manager a Queen Anne’s School comments:

“The equipment in the gym was 15 years old and the space limited so we decided to invest in new state-of-the-art pieces and convert the double squash court into a larger gym. We are one of the top independent girl’s schools in the UK and needed a gym to reflect the level expected by both parents and students.”

As well as the fitness suite and dance studio, the school boasts a fully-equipped sports centre featuring a squash court, climbing wall, 25m, 5 lane indoor swimming pool, seven netball courts – which convert into 11 tennis courts – and five lacrosse pitches which are also used for athletics and rounders in the summer.

Ed Hellings, Director of Finance and Administration at Queen Anne’s School said:

“We were very impressed with how professional Createability was, the quality and standard of work is of an exceptionally high level, and the project was completed slightly early and to budget.  The attention to detail was first-class, with due diligence paid to the schools brand,  which is key to QAS’s identity. Everyone, without exception, who has seen the new fitness suite loves it.  We would most certainly use Createability again.”

The refurbishment of the fitness suite and dance studio was undertaken over a matter of weeks as the facilities needed to be ready for the new school term in September. Our design team worked with the school on their brand colours to ensure these came through in the finishes of the build. We are all pleased with the final product and for the school this has given them a fantastic facility for their students to utilise.
