Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles (IHL), a social enterprise and charitable trust working on behalf of Cannock Chase District Council – £1 Million Leisure Centre Investment to meet Community Needs
Work is underway at The Chase Leisure Centre in Cannock Chase to transform an under-utilised indoor bowls hall into a thriving physical activity and community hub.
The brief is to create three new revenue-generating facilities; an immersive indoor cycle studio, a functional training zone and a multi-use room. In addition, the 7,650 sq.ft. first floor fitness suite will be re-equipped and will benefit from fresh new interiors.
Peter Burt, Managing Director at IHL, says: “The investment will bring the centre more in line with community needs through better utilisation of space and the introduction of a more diverse range of activities which inspire a wider segment of the local population. …. I am confident the investment will result in a more active, healthy and fulfilled community as well as creating opportunities to generate revenue which can be reinvested in the facilities.”
When the new facilities fully open in March 2019 The Chase will become one of only a handful of leisure facilities in the UK to offer Les Mills’ THE TRIP. The fully immersive group cycle experience will see riders journey through incredible virtual landscapes delivered via a huge cinema-scale screen and sound system. The space will be fully equipped with 21 Technogym bikes, creating an inspiring and fully engaging workout experience like nothing else on offer in the community.
Next to the cycle studio will be a dedicated functional training zone, creating a whole host of new training opportunities and workout experiences. A fixed, functional rig will take centre stage, supported by a range of Escape Fitness supplied accessories from battle ropes and kettlebells to a sled and track and a SkiErg.
As well as introducing an inspiring playground for personal trainers and their clients, the space will also be used to host high intensity small group training from Les Mills’ GRIT series to IHL’s very own Battle Fit.
The main fitness suite will also benefit from a complete redecoration and the introduction of new Technogym kit including; SKILLROW, SKILLBIKE, SKILLRUN, SKILLMILL, plus a Kinesis Core Station and a Kinesis Squat/Step station. A new Olympic half rack and platform will be incorporated ensuring users have access to all the equipment they need for an effective and progressive workout. Workout data can be collated and stored via Technogym’s cloud based Mywellness system and body composition analysis can be measured via a new Tanita machine.
Peter Burt, adds: “The functional training space will add a whole new dimension to the type of instructor-led training we can offer our members. Couple this with the immersive cycle experience and fitness suite upgrade and, come March next year, The Chase will offer the community access to some of the most innovative fitness facilities in the country.”
Complimenting the new fitness facilities will be a multi-function room which will be used for a number of purposes from meetings and children’s parties to fitness classes and GP referral sessions.
Managing Director, Ian Cotgrave says: “The investment in this five-month project will offer the local community affordable access to an outstanding facility, that out rivals many of its private counterparts throughout the country. We have designed and delivered some truly spectacular local authority developments in our time, but The Chase stands out for its innovative thinking to inspire more people to be more active, more often.”
