Createability delights stakeholders at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre for the third time

Creating Space that Motivates Fitness

Members and staff say latest renovation has brought dramatic, positive change

A transformation of Sevenoaks Leisure Centre has had a dramatic impact, with membership increasing by 21% since the works finished in July 2018[1]. The £1 million makeover, which is the third carried out by leisure design and build expert Createability at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre, was commissioned by Sencio Community Leisure, the company managing the centre on behalf of Sevenoaks District Council. Feedback from staff and customers suggests the new space is delighting all stakeholders.

Jane Parish, CEO of Sencio Community Leisure, said: “The refurbishment has enabled us to compete effectively with other facilities in the area. We now offer a first-class wellness experience at an affordable price.”

Creating a space that motivates fitness

Createability initially refurbished the gym at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre around ten years ago, before returning some years later to reconfigure the changing rooms to a ground floor area in order to extend the gym.  2018 saw the team back on site again to lead a further redevelopment, from concept to build. Significant work included modifying an old, glass-sided toddler pool hall for dry side use; creating a walkway to access the existing studio; building a new free weights area, fitness studio and fitness changing area; improving the layout of the first floor gym; refurbishing an existing dance studio; and stripping out an old, dry side changing and disused spa on the ground floor to make room for extra male and female changing facilities.

Making a good first impression

Createability developed a concept that solved the centre’s problems. These included poor flow, resulting in congestion at the reception area; inadequate exercise machines in the gym to cope with demand during peak times; lack of space for free weights; and wasted space. In addition, it addressed interior design and created a fresh, new look.

Jane Parish said: “The reception now gives a much better first impression. By creating more space, the flow from this area to other parts of the centre has been greatly improved.”
